Christmas in October, Kansas City: 2006

Christmas in October is a city wide event that corporations get involved with here in Kansas City every October. My small group at Grace Church was going through a book called 40 days of Community which pushed us to get involved in the community and serve others. A member of my group is an employee at Sprint and an annual organizer of a Christmas in October team. So it worked out that this would become our service project, and it came together seamlessly. We had members who were skilled and willing in many areas of home repair and maintenance.

At these two locations we were able to repair 2 back decks, rebuild the front steps, clean up both yards, strip the walls and repaint the inside of one house, and fix a hole in the roof of the other house. We completed all of this in one day and were able to increase the safety of the houses as well as give the home owners hope for the future. I look forward to helping out in years to come.
