Vacation in Germany and Switzerland: 2004
In 2004 we had the opportunity to go to Germany and Switzerland. We landed in Zürich where we picked up our rental car. Ali needed to be in Konstanz, Germany in 2 days for work, so we had some time to kill.
We drove north out of Zürich and onto a peaceful, not so crowded section of the autobahn. Stopping at a few towns on the way we decided to stay the night in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. From there we went through Stein-am-Rhein and into Konstanz.
Ali had daily events going on at the Altana headquarters, so I teamed up with another husband, Larry, whose wife also works for Altana and we headed out on daily trips to see attractions in the area. First we went to Mt. Santis in the Swiss Alps. It took us a few hours to drive there, but driving anywhere in Germany, Austria or Switzerland is exciting. We drove through many small towns, stopping along the way to take photographs, then we spent a few hours on Mt. Santis. The next day, Larry and I decided to drive to the Schloss Neuschwanstein, the castle of King Ludwig II. Driving time to the castle and back was around 8 hours, It was a full day of great sites.
After that I took a few days to walk around and explore Konstanz, Ali and I enjoyed staying in that town and doing the simple things like going to the mall, eating at the local Thai restaurant and trying to find laundromats and grocery stores.
When our time was over in Konstaz, we drove back to Zürich for one final night. Our hotel was on the river and once we got settled in we headed out to walk Zürich at night. Some of the roads were cobble stone and narrow, steep in some areas and people were everywhere, mostly sitting at tables outside of bars and restaurants.
